Joe Highfill, El Dorado Springs, was rigged for a big fish with 80 lb. test line as he was fishing Sunday, Feb. 17, but he was talking to some guys who had just arrived at the small lake about noon. One of them told him he might want to check the middle rod, from which line was stripping at a high rate. And that’s when the fight started. Joe would slowly work the fish near the bank where he was standing. The fish would spook and strip drag. A long ways into the hour and half battle, Joe got visual evidence it was a big fish when the fish stuck its tail out of the water. More than an hour after Joe landed the 52-inch long female white cat that had a head size of 34 1⁄2 inches, it tipped the scales at 91 lbs. He estimated the fresh weight would have been 100 lbs.
