GENEVIEVE SHAW CELEBRATES 104 YEARS – Genevieve Shaw celebrated her 104th birthday a day early on July 3 at the Community Springs Health Care Facility in El Dorado Springs. Family members visited throughout the 4th of July weekend. Mrs. Shaw has lived at Community Springs for the past year. She lived in her own home up until that time. In fact, she’s lived all 104 years in this area.
She was born in 1909 in a house on South Main Street in El Dorado Springs to James Edward Stone and Dora Alice Jackson Stone. Her great grandparents, Abner Jackson and Samantha Jane Brown Jackson, were homesteaders. Her grandparents were John Andrew Jackson and Sarah Elmira Hading Jackson.
She and her husband, Leslie Shaw, lived on a farm just a quarter mile south of where the Splash and Go is on West 54 Highway. They raised bees and sold honey. At one time they were one of the largest honey suppliers in the state of Missouri. She made hand made rugs, processed her honey and worked in her garden. Genevieve also taught school, mostly in country schools but also at the North School, where the Youth Center is now. The couple had two children, Ruth Shaw Allen and Raymond Shaw. She has two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren
