The Cedar & Vernon County Genealogical Society met Tuesday, Aug. 20, in the fellowship room at the Church of Christ in El Dorado Springs. The program was presented by Dr. Rosemary Noel, from the Elizabeth Carey Daughters of the American Revolution. Rosemary Noel is the Regent of the DAR. Dr. Noel spoke about using the DAR Genealogy Research System to search for our patriots.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 17, in the meeting room of the Nevada Library. The program will be presented by Mary Alice Jeserick, an expert in searching compiled records at She will explain what compiled records are and how to more effectively search these records. When an ancestor’s name is found in compiled records, there is often a wealth of information with it. Users can now also print a pedigree or family group sheet for that person. Using compiled records can benefit your family history research.

Everyone interested in family history research is invited to attend this free program – bring a friend. You are invited to bring your laptop to use during this program. If you have questions, please contact the society at

Everyone is invited to visit and explore the “new” Nevada Library Genealogy Department following the meeting.
