William Darrell “Dub” Eason, 75, El Dorado Springs, passed away at Cedar County Memorial Hospital on Friday morning, Oct. 25, 2013.

W.D. was born June 25, 1938, in Cedar County, the oldest son of Francis Leroy and Myrtle Ellen (Lee) Eason. As a young boy, W.D. attended the Wright school, walking two and a half miles each way. He later attended El Dorado Springs High School.

W.D. worked hard as a young boy helping on the family farm. He built fence, plowed with a team of horses and hauled hay. It was while hauling hay for a neighbor, that W.D. said he first saw the love of his life. Dub told everyone this girl was the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on and that he was going to marry her someday. On July 29, 1958, W.D. made his dream come true and was united in marriage to Judy Frances Culbertson in Butler. To this union, three children were born, Darrell in 1959, Donna in 1960 and Curtis in 1961.

In 1962, W.D. and Judy purchased a farm south of El Dorado Springs and settled down to raise their family, sharing the next 55 years together. Early on, Dub and Judy raised hogs, milked 35 head of cattle and raised corn, all while W.D. worked for the International Shoe Company for 22 years. In the later years, they raised beef cattle, buying more land to eventually run 200 head. They truly knew the meaning of making more with less.

Dub loved to hunt and work with bees. He was known to many as the “Bee Man.”

W.D. was an outstanding husband, father and grandfather. His family meant the world to him and he was so proud of each and every one of them. He was a wonderful friend and neighbor and will be missed by all who knew him.

W.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Myrtle Eason, and a sister, Shirley Fairchild.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; his children – Darrell and wife – Pennie, Donna and husband – Jerry and Curtis and wife – Cheryl, all of El Dorado Springs; seven grandchildren – Steve, Dustin, Mary, Melissa, Derek, Michael and Kristin; and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers – Wendall and wife, Gayle – Hume, Larry and wife, Gwen – Drexel, Gary – El Dorado Springs, Roger and wife, Joy – Harwood and Loren and wife Sue – Sheldon; and one sister, Brenda Widner – El Dorado Springs.
