Extensive fire damage on West Spring Street

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces that on Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday, Dec. 31, the driver examination station located at the Nevada National Guard Armory will not conduct testing. However, testing will be conducted, weather permitting, at the Vernon County Ambulance Barn, 515 E. Walnut, Nevada, phone number (417) 942-8043. The driver examination station located at the Nevada National Guard Armory will resume normal testing hours on Thursday, Dec. 26, and on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Temporary location for Vernon County driver examination station

According to El Dorado Springs Fire Chief Owen Elliot, a house fire at 207 West Spring Friday night, Dec. 20, did extensive damage to the residence.

The call came in at 11:29 p.m., Elliot said, and the cause is believed to have started in the chimney. Elliot said that the fire was confined to the house.

The occupant is David Scrutchfield, but the house is owned by people from Lee’s Summit.
