Gene Rieder, 71, Independence, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, around 12:30 p.m. He was born April 7, 1942, to Raymond and Ruth Rieder in Kansas City. He was the first of three boys.

While growing up, he lived in Raytown, Grand Junction, CO, and Independence. He graduated from Van Horn High School in 1962. He started working for General Motors in 1966 and after 34 years he retired in 2000. He enjoyed working in his garden, sharing vegetables with family and friends, joking around, pulling pranks, homemade vanilla ice cream, spending time with family and friends and providing for his family.

His smile, his laugh and the sound of his voice will be missed, but comfort can be found in knowing that he lived for Jesus and he is now resting by His side.

Gene is survived by two daughters, two sons-in-law, four grandsons, his mother, two brothers, two sisters-in-law, four nephews and one niece.

Services for Gene Rieder were held Saturday, Jan. 18, at Raytown Church of Christ, Raytown. Burial followed in El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Larry Rieder, Gerald Rieder, Jeremy Widner, Buck Ash, Jordan Howe, Jonah Howe and Bryce Rieder.
