Senator Mike Parson, R-Bolivar, sponsored Senate Bill 796 this session, legislation that would allow for only one applicant to apply in person for a marriage license if the applicant is incarcerated or on active military duty.

“I filed this legislation to set up a way for inmates to obtain a marriage license after recent ruling by a judge in favor of inmates who cannot be present during the application process,” said Sen. Parson. “We included language that would benefit active military personnel who are on active duty, out of the state or out of the country.”

Senate Bill 796 has been delivered to the governor. If approved the legislation would take effect on Aug. 28, 2014. For information on Sen. Parson’s sponsored legislation, visit his official Missouri Senate website at www.senate.mo.gov/parson.
