Sandy Crawford Capitol report

Lawmakers heard the governor’s budget for our state this week when he gave his annual State of the State to the Legislature. He laid out his agenda for the Show-Me State, including his desire to continue fully funding the foundation formula and raising base pay for teachers to $40,000.

In addition to the improvements to I-70 through our state, there is also proposed initial money to upgrade I-44. The governor also continues to stress getting more of rural Missouri connected to broadband internet, which would help make our state more competitive.

These are some great ideas, and I look forward to working with both the governor and my colleagues in the Missouri Senate to put these ideas to work.

Also this week, a couple of my legislative priorities moved forward. Senate Bill 737 would update antiquated statutes relating to money transmission. Senate Bill 836 would modify the definition of “certified funds” for purposes of a statute regulating the use of certain funds by real estate settlement agents and title insurance agents. Both of these bills were heard in the Missouri Senate Insurance and Banking Committee, which I chair.
