Dear El Dorado Springs R-2 Students and Patrons,

On behalf of the Board of Education, Administration, and Staff, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all students, both new and returning, to El Dorado Springs R-2 Schools and wish them success in their upcoming academic and extra-curricular endeavors.

As usual, our maintenance and custodial crews have been very busy this summer upgrading, cleaning, and repairing our facilities. This dedicated staff makes our facilities function and look great, and their work is greatly appreciated. The most notable changes to our campuses this year will be the addition of a number of new sidewalks around campus, new fencing, upgrades in our HS gym lobby, and the major renovation of our track and football stadium.

The district’s finances continue to remain stable in spite of the budget shortfalls experienced by the state. The district will soon engage in another round of bond refinancing which will take advantage of current low interest rates to pay off bonds early. As with all schools, we continue to add programs and services for our students and with each addition comes difficulties with providing adequate facilities for the new and existing programs. The district has engaged the services of an architect to research and make recommendations regarding our facilities. A number of meetings have been scheduled to accommodate this process and we would like to invite all patrons to attend these meeting and provide input toward developing the direction for our facilities for the future.

The 2012-13 school year will see a number of changes in our staff as we welcome 18 new teachers to our team. The administrative team will remain the same: Tracy Lanser, Elementary Principal; Jeni Hearting, Associate Elementary Principal; Brad Steward, Middle School Principal; Dave Hedrick, High School Principal; Kim Calvin, Special Services Director; Bob Ramsey, Activities Director; Brent Hillsman, District Technology Director; Bob Cornell, Director of Buildings and Grounds; Mary Ann Speight, Food Services Director with OPAA!, and Vanessa Hardy, Transportation Supervisor with Durham School Services.

Students will return to campus for the new school year on Wednesday, August 15. I look forward to welcoming our students and parents as we begin what I am sure will be an outstanding and successful year for El Dorado Springs R-2 Schools!

Mark Koča, Superintendent
