The El Dorado Springs Optimist Club named the Teachers of the Year at the El Dorado Springs R-II School. They are Mrs. Jennifer Ring (Elementary), Mrs. Melanie Steward (Middle School) and Mrs. Nicole Smith (High School).
Elementary Principal Tracy Lanser wrote about Jennifer Ring: This year will be Jenny’s eighth year with our district. During the last year, she took a leadership role in organizing the St. Jude’s Math-a-thon and served as a member of the Elementary PBIS team. She does an excellent job in the classroom and has even provided students with an opportunity to participate in a book club called “Flashlight Readers.” Jenny has volunteered to be certified as a Smart Board trainer and always goes above and beyond to troubleshoot and offer technical assistance when needed. She approaches her job and her working relationships in a very professional manner.
The Middle School administration wrote about Mrs. Melanie Steward: Mrs. Steward teaches sixth grade study skills, which focuses on the reading side of communication arts. She has been teaching for 12 years with the last four being in her current position in the sixth grade. Every year she goes out of her way to help her students adjust easily to middle school life.
High School Principal David Hedrick wrote: Mrs. Nicole Smith has taught at EHS for the past five years. During that time she restarted the Speech and Debate team. Last year she had over 30 students compete in her program. She has also had her students qualify for state and national competitions. She has also presented five major theatrical productions and last year had 84 students participate in Li’l Abner.
