On Tuesday, April 23, the El Dorado Springs track team traveled to Bolivar to compete at the SBU Bearcat Relays.  For what was looking to be a very wet day, the day turned out pretty awesome, both weather wise and performance wise.  The rain held off, and the slightly overcast conditions kept conditions great for incredible performances.

These are the medalists for the day, including one school record.  On the running side, Daelen Ackley led the way in the small school division, finishing 3rd in the the 1600 meter run with a personal best time of 4:37.48 and then came back to win the 3200 meter run in a time of 9:56.03.This was the first time for Daelen to double up, not to mention he also anchored the 4 x 800 meter relay team, earlier in the day.

Brayden Housh had a busy day.  He started off the day in the 110 meter high hurdles, finishing 5th with a time of 17.84 seconds. He then quickly headed over to the javelin, in between prelims and finals of the hurdles, to place 4th with a javelin throw of 135’1”, behind a very good throw from a teammate, of which we will talk about shortly. Brayden then finished the day with pole vault, where he finished 3rd with a height of 12’6”.

Ethan Parshall joined Brayden in the pole vault, and despite a slight injury, he finished 2nd with a vault of 13’0”.

And to round out the day we had Shelby McKinney.  Shelby threw all three throws and placed in all 3. Shelby ended up 5th in the discus, with a throw of 118’3”.  He then turned around and  42’5.5” to get 3rd in the shot put.  Last to cap off a successful day, Shelby ended up winning the javelin competition with a throw of 151’7”, This was the first time Shelby has broken 150’ and broke his previous school record of 149’11”.

Overall, this was a very good day.  We had many others perform well, but didn’t quite medal, despite numerous personal best performances.  At the end of the day, the boys team ended up 4th as a team, just 8 points out of 2nd.

The track team has a JV meet at Bolivar on Monday, April 29, and wraps up the regular season, with the Conference meet on Tuesday, April 30.

After that we head to post season, starting with Districts on Saturday, May 11 at Clinton.
