Folks who are interested in learning more about advanced healthcare directives may join Care Connection for Aging Services for a free Facebook Live session.

The session, which begins at 1 p.m. June 17, will focus on the “Five Wishes” advanced healthcare directive. The Five Wishes document would be considered a legal document once it’s signed and notarized.

The hour-long session will be conducted by a care manager, who will be available to field partcipants’ questions live on Facebook.

People who wish to register for the session and receive a copy of the booklet may call Care Manager Shery Fogle at 1-800-748-7826. To attend, visit the Care Connection Facebook page at www.facebook.com/goaging.org at 1 p.m. June 17.

The Five Wishes document will allow participants to list instructions about medical treatments they want and do not wish to have and to choose in advance the person who they want to make health care decisions (durable power of attorney) if they are unable to make them.

Copies of another publication, “I Have Put My House in Order,” also will be distributed upon request. This booklet guides the user in providing important information about his home, family, estate planning, funeral plans, finances, and life insurance.

The Facebook Live session is one of several online classes that Care Connection’s 21 senior centers have been offering since COVID-19 forced the agency to close centers to the public in mid-March.

“We have increased our presence on Facebook Live and Zoom as we have continued to provide curbside meal pickup and home-delivered meals to homebound individuals,” said Executive Director Diana Hoemann. “Because a major part of our operations is food service, and our target audience is the vulnerable group of older adults (60 and older), we need to be very, very deliberate and careful as we plan center re-openings.”

The agency has no dates for reopening at this time.
