The Cedar County Historical Society held their monthly meeting May 18, at the museum in Stockton.

Members present were President Judy Nichols, Vice President Bob Phillips, Treasurer Kay Snow, Assistant Treasurer Shirley Potts, Secretary Connie Maupin, Luella Phipps, Sharyl Henry, Kenneth Potts, Chris Barber and Bob Estes.

April minutes were approved by the membership.

Judy Nichols reported that Leslie James will be presenting a program on prohibition in Cedar County at our Aug. 17 meeting. The program is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and the regular business meeting will follow.

Judy Nichols is still working on our new sign for the Courthouse which will give more information about the Society and hopefully make the general public more aware of our existence.

Bob Phillips gave his promised five minute talk on early settlers in his area. He will continue this theme at the next meeting.

Membership cards were discussed and it was decided that new cards should state that dues are paid from July 1 to July 1 the following year.

The next Board meeting will begin at 1 p.m. June 12,  in the museum.

Discussed dates for annual meeting and election of officers.

Connie Maupin reported that we have four new members: -Howard Sharp, John Maupin, Bob O’Dell and Charles Skaggs.

Donations: Received donation of Cedar County Plat Books for the years 2010 and 2015. Chris Barber donated three bags of air freshener, a Stockton school photo from the early 1900’s and a 78 rpm record featuring Sac River Jones. Bob Estes donated a copy of his mother’s book “Gleanings” by Bernice Root.

Our next meeting will begin at 1 p.m, June 15, in our museum at 106 West Davis in Stockton. Our meetings are open to the public.
