The Society gathered for the annual officer election and luncheon meeting at the Cedar County Museum in Stockton, on Monday, July 31. Those present were President Judy Nichols, Vice President Judith Cain, Secretary Connie Maupin, Treasurer Anna Hopkins, Sharyl Henry, Chris Barber, Virginia Barber, Ellis Benham, Bob Phillips and Don Cain. After enjoying a delicious potluck meal from members, the meeting was called to order and the Pledge of Allegiance recited.
Chris and Virginia Barber reported that they are in contact with Kaitlyn McConnell regarding a new public program. No date or venue has been established as yet. There was also discussion in regards to acquiring some sort of sound system for use during programs.
Judy Nichols is trying to locate a chair storage rack but has not found anything suitable so far. Judy Nichols and Connie Maupin inventoried on July 11.
Don and Judi Cain and Judy Nichols worked at the El Dorado Springs Picnic in the Wayside Inn Museum, with the Preserve Our Past Society. They always enjoy working at the museum.
A few yearly memberships, due in July, have been received by mail. Membership now stands at 47. Sharyl Henry challenged those present to contact at least three non-members who they feel might be interested in joining in hopes of raising membership. Yearly fees are $15 per person. Members do not need to reside in Cedar County or even the State of Missouri. If you have an interest in the preservation of Cedar County history, please consider supporting the society by joining. The society is not tax funded, is a 501C3 Non-Profit organization and depends on donations from the public and fundraising events. All donations are tax deductible. The vendor booth fee for the Black Walnut Festival has been paid to the Sertoma Club. Chris and Virginia Barber have been soliciting gift card and certificate donations from local businesses for a raffle. The cards and certificates will be arranged in a basket designed and donated by Abbie Haden, owner of Abbie’s Burlap Basket. The basket will be kept at the museum for viewing. Chris and Virginia Barber will be designing a poster for the booth in the park, showing all businesses who donate. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the museum and at the booth in the park on Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23, during the festival.
The Society is still collecting Best Choice labels, Best Choice Selections and Best Choice Clearly food labels and used computer ink cartridges.
The little Niche store continues to grow, thanks to those who have generously donated items. Donations must be clean and usable. Electrical items must be in working order. No clothing or shoes will be accepted. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
By unanimous vote, the officers for the 2023-2024 year are: Judy Nichols, President; Chris Barber, Vice-President; Connie Maupin, Secretary; Anna Hopkins, Treasurer; Judith Cain, Board Member and Bob Phillips, Board Member. Officers are automatically on the Board of Directors. Judy Nichols is the curator of the museum. Chris Barber will retain his position as program coordinator, with Virginia Barber assisting.

Pink Depression Era glassware by Zella Hamilton McGettrick, that was given to her by Iza Chaney Hudson and a 1938 aerial map of Caplinger Mills and other local genealogy, by Bob Phillips.
The Museum will be open Saturday, Aug. 5 and Aug. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. or by appointment. The next meeting will be on Monday, Aug. 28 at 1 p.m.
