Over 70 community-spirited volunteers assembled at the El Dorado Springs Chamber of Commerce office this past Saturday for the fall “Clean-Up El Do” campaign. The “Spring City Clean Team” volunteers improved many local properties along with miles of streets, ditches and sidewalks throughout the community. Committee member Glenda Baker mentioned, “Everyone here is showing their commitment to improvement. It’s really been a great event and we plan to continue our progress, making El Dorado Springs a better place to live, work and raise families.”

Several citizens called for clean-up assistance which included moving items to curbside for bulk trash pick-up plus brush and tree removal.  The group collected approximately 200 bags of trash, 53 tires were brought for recycling as well as several trees cut up and brush piles hauled away.

The Spring City Clean Team committee included Bob and Glenda Baker, Lana Wilson MDC, Jack Daniel First Christian Church, Shannon Mays Shannon and Associates, Steve and Sherry Wiseman Church of Christ, John and Georgia Detwiler, Bruce Rogers with the City of El Dorado Springs, Police Chief Jarrod Scheireck, Code EnforcementOofficer Jennifer Bullard, Peggy Snodgrass and Jackson Tough Chamber of Commerce.

The group decided to conduct two clean-up dates (spring and fall) this year, and going forward, plans are to have an annual clean-up each spring.

Chamber Director Jackson Tough said, “Never doubt that a group of thoughtful and committed citizens have the ability to cause positive change our community; indeed we can, and that is what’s happening through this effort. We’ve had an excellent turn-out for both of these events, however like anything else it can be improved upon and I believe we will witness continued growth and support in future endeavors. My goal would be to have almost every Chamber of Commerce member and a large percentage of the community participating in some form of clean-up or improvement. After all, who doesn’t desire a cleaner community? I think we all know the answer to that, and working together remarkable things can be achieved in El Dorado Springs.”
