DAR HONORS THE LATE VELVA ELDERS – by Neoma Foreman.  Jerre Robertson, Midwest District Director Missouri State Society Daughters of the American Revolution and Past Chapter Regent of the Alexander Doniphan Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Liberty, Missouri, presided at a Grave Marking Ceremony Sunday afternoon the Ground Mound Cemetery near Harwood, Missouri in honor of Velva Mae Gerster Elder, Director on the Executive Board and Past Chapter Regent, Alexander Doniphan Chapter.

The members from the Alexander Doniphan group that were present were: Jerre Robertson, Midwest District Director, past Chapter Regent

Sharon Bugg, Chapter Regent; Vivian Stockwell, Chaplain, and past Chapter Regent; Nancy George, Registrar, and Past Chapter Regent; Cheryl McCann, Historian; Denise Irminger, Parliamentarian, Velva’s Daughter; Ronda Banks, Velva’s granddaughter; Martha Bell; Jane Shepherd, past Historian; and Jane Sharon.

Honorary State officers present were Karen Bradley, Honorary State Regent; and Past Vice President General Joanna Bradley, State Historian.

The Color Guard was provided by the Sons of the American Revolution William C Corum Chapter, Liberty, MO and John Bugg and Bill Irminger, Velva’s son-in-law.

There were several members of Velva’s family and Elizabeth Carey DAR members. Nevada Elizabeth Carey Chapter DAR members present were Linda Mitchell, Regent, Nancy Thompson, Marty Patton, Dorothy Palmer, and Neoma Foreman.

Velva Elders was honored because of her dedication to the historic, educational and patriotic objectives of the DAR, and an inspiration in our daily work for God, Home and Country.

Jane Shephard laid the wreath on Velva’s grave.

After the dedication ceremony, a reception was held at the nearby Fair Haven Springs Park.
