Although temperatures soared over the weekend, the heat wasn’t just in the air—it was in the arena, too, as local youth brought serious talent and heart to the annual Cedar County Youth Fair Horse Show.
Spectators gathered under the blazing sun to watch a full lineup of competitors from across the county, and the event did not disappoint. The competition was fierce, but the camaraderie and community pride were even stronger.
The highlight of the horse show came as results rolled in and awards were scheduled to be handed out Monday at 5 p.m. Among the top honors:
• Showmanship, 13 years and over: Libbey Colvin
• Showmanship, 9–12 years: Willa Bruce
• Intermediate Speed Event Champion (9–12 years): Melaney Abercrombie
• Senior Speed Event Champion (13 and over): Libbey Colvin
• Intermediate Performance Horse Champion (9–12 years): Willa Bruce
• Senior Performance Horse Champion (13 and over): Libbey Colvin
Colvin had a standout showing, earning three top titles and demonstrating impressive skill across both speed and performance categories.
The horse show kicked off a full slate of activities planned throughout the week at the Cedar County Youth Fairgrounds. Friday promises a full day of action, beginning with livestock judging at 8 a.m. for swine, sheep, dairy goats, and meat goats. A community luncheon will be served at 11 a.m., followed by dummy roping at 1 p.m. and a cornhole tournament at 2 p.m.
Evening events begin at 5 p.m. with check-in for beef, poultry, and rabbit entries. A beef exhibitor meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by the rabbit and poultry show at 6 p.m. Market beef weigh-in will take place immediately afterward.
Fair officials praised all participants for their dedication and sportsmanship despite the sweltering conditions. More results and photos are expected to be posted online on their social media page.
