Pinocchio Syndrome: When you lie about your diet to yourself

TOPS Chapter 9319 El Dorado Springs met in The Firefly Services building 700 E. Hospital Rd., on Thursday, Aug. 27, for their regular weigh-in and meeting.

Warren called the meeting to order.

Carol led us in singing “TOPS Healing Hand.”

We said our TOPS & KOPS pledges.

Warren led us in roll call, 16 members weighed in we had a gain of 3.8 and a loss of 3.2, giving us a net gain of .6. Linda C lost 1.2 pounds and our best loser for the week was Warren with a 2-pound loss. Congratulations, Warren.

Juanita and Steve had the program today. They spoke on the Pinocchio Syndrome; when you lie about your diet to yourself.

Some of the ways we do this is: We tell ourselves “I’ll just taste a little bit.” That little bit turns into more than we plan on.

I will start tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes.

My scale is crazy. Sometimes they can be off, however if it is constantly weighing the same or more, it’s probably not the scale.

I am buying it for my family. If it’s in the house it is a very big temptation. Does your family really need Junk Food?

I have a slow metabolism. Sometimes that is the case. A doctor can tell you if you have medical problems.

I skipped lunch so it’s OK to have dessert. A calorie is a calorie but sweets will let you crash in a few hours after consuming. A balanced meal will keep you going for much longer.

I don’t understand why I am not losing. Try keeping a food journal for a few days and see how much you are really eating.

It’s a Holiday, so I can splurge. Sometimes after splurging it’s really hard to get back on track.

Bottom line is, be conscious of what you consume. Don’t lie to yourself.
