Vernon County Sheriff’s officials report that a Schell City resident has been charged with a felony crime of unlawful possession of a firearm. According to officials, deputies responded to a disturbance in progress in Schell City early Sunday morning. Multiple deputies responded to the call and EMS units from VCAD also responded after dispatch received a report that someone had been hit in the head.

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said both parties declined to press charges for assault, but Joseph P. Stevens Sr. was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm. The Sheriff said a female suspect was also arrested on Monday after deputies received additional evidence involving the same incident, but her name has not yet been released pending the filing of formal charges. The Sheriff said some damage was caused to city property during the incident. “We expect additional charges in this case to be filed this week” said Mosher.
