Deputies began delivering food Tuesday morning to 36 families throughout Vernon County that had been placed on their children’s food box list.

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said those 36 families made up a total of 144 people, most of which were children. “We have a passion for helping the children in our community and we hope these food boxes filled with kid-friendly food will make their Christmas a little bit brighter.”

Mosher said they collected a record amount of food from citizens in Vernon County this year and were able to give each family a good amount of food. Sheriff Mosher said he started the food drive for children when he spoke to a small child during a search warrant and the child told him how much he liked school because “it was warm, and they had food at school.” Mosher said he was very grateful for so many people donating their time to help and the food they provided.
