Tops 1325 was called to order at 5 p.m. Becky started the meeting with a few weight loss poems and then went into the weight report. We had a loss of 3.4 lbs., and a net loss of 2.8 pounds. Becky was are biggest looser so she got to choose the Red Light Food, and she chose No 2nd Helpings. If we have 2nd helpings then we owe 10 cents for the times we ate a 2nd helping. We chose to do these fines so that we will have money for things we need, fundraisers, events, trips, etc.

We discussed the contest. The end of the Octopus contest is Sept. 3, Johan is currently in the lead, next is Becky and Felicia, and last but not least, is Carol. Becky had the program Thursday. Her program was on “6 Health Benefits of Spinach, According to a Nutritionist.” We learned that Spinach can be put into anything. The lady who wrote the article Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD, Aug., 18, says that she puts Spinach into smoothies, chilled salads, she steams it, sautes it, she even bakes it into brownies. We learned about how it can benefit your health, it has just 20 calories so it is low in calories, it has lots of nutrients, it gives a lot of vitamin K, 300 percent of the amount needed daily, the daily amount of Vitamin A, it gives 160 percent, and 40 percent of the vitamin C that we need. Another benefit is “spinach – derived substances can reduce oxidative stress, DNA damage, and disease,” this comes from a study that was published in “Food & Function” which is a journal. There is five pages of information, it was a really informative program, and it was really interesting.  We thank her for the great information.

Next week our  Area Captain from Tops Club, Inc. is coming for a visit. We are very excited for that, it is always so much fun, and very informative. Last time she came, besides all the great information she gave us, we also played a game, did a little contest, and won prizes. We really love Claudia Gaylord, she is not just our Area Captain, she is a leader, she helps us with anything we need help with, any questions, but she is also our friend. She is a really great lady.

We discussed our dear friend and how we wanted to honor him. Tom Dade and his wife Becky joined Tops in April of 2004. Tom was an inspiration to us. He loved his Tops members very much and was a great role model for us.  Tom was always encouraging us to get healthy, live a better life. He did many programs on heart disease, diabetes, mental health, and gave many other important topics. His main focus was to be around for his boys and his wife for a very long time. He encouraged us to get healthier and to always try to be better each day, than the day before. His main goals were to run in a marathon with his son, and to live a long, healthier life so he would be around for his boys and his wife. He talked often about how proud of them he was. We have chosen Tom Dade as our Chapter Angel. He will always be our best example, and he will forever be in our hearts.
