Program:  Linda H had the program today. She took her program from TOPS Real Life Book chapter 10.  “Diabetes and Obesity.” She said diabetes is on the rise. Most everyone has or knows someone who is living with diabetes.

Why is it on the rise? We are living longer, diabetes is detected earlier and our food supply is changing to include more refined foods and sugary beverages.

Diabetes adds to your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, High LDL cholesterol, kidney disease and loss of eyesight.

There are actions we can take to help control blood sugar or keep us from getting diabetes.

Lifestyle practices make a big difference.

Weight loss and diabetes control is a winning combination.

Avoid fad diets as they can cause harm. Make sure your diet plan is well balanced and with all food groups included. Emphasize high fiber foods. Don’t cut carbs completely be sure you have enough carbs and calories planned throughout the day. Make it a healthy eating plan you can stay on for the long haul. Add physical activity to your plan. Be sure the plan fits into your daily schedule and is something you can be comfortable with.

Linda had members look at their food charts for last week. Did they have healthy nutrition dense foods on it? Members made suggestions as to what works for them.

Thank you, Linda, for a wonderful program.

And our motto:

“IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME.”
