TOPS Chapter 9319 El Dorado Springs (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) met in the Methodist Church Thursday, May 24,  for their weekly weigh in and meeting.

Kay led us in singing “I Want To Be At That Meeting.”

Marilyn led us in a series of exercises.

Sheryl Ann led us in roll call and walking report. Twenty-five weighed in today and we had a 6.8 lb. net loss.

Robbie was the weeks best loser with a loss of 3.8 lbs.

Several members of our chapter attended the TOPS State Recognition Day (SRD) in Springfield May 11 and 12. We are proud to report our chapter member, Steve Scoville, won Missouri State King Runner Up.  He won 2nd place in his division. He and his wife and chapter member, Juanita Scoville, were our chapter’s King and Queen (having lost the most weight to goal).

Our chapter also received a “Gold Star Award” for meeting a list of requirements and an award for our chapter having their 50- year anniversary.

Steve and Juanita are one of two couples we have in our chapter. We as a chapter encourage couples to join us on this healthy way of life/weight loss journey. They say it is easier when both husband and wife are doing it as they can encourage each other.  Here is Steve’s story in his own words:

Hello everyone, my name is Steve Scoville. I live in El Dorado Springs, MO and I go to TOPS 9319.

I am like everyone here today. I have been fighting my weight my whole life except when I was in the Military. They made me stay in shape. The older I got the heaver I got. Trying to lose weight on my own, joining weight loss groups with no luck. I just put it right back on.

Then I was blessed with diabetes and weighed 285 pounds and married a very good cook, so we got fat together, happy but heavy. My diabetes was totally out of control, A1C almost 11.0 and not feeling good at all.

Then my wife decided to join TOPS, thanks to a friend telling her about TOPS. She joined in April 2016. We started talking about her weight loss and my diabetes. My life, I believe, would have been shortened if not for my wife and TOPS. I joined TOPS on Dec. 22 of 2016. I weighed 268.8. I hit my goal of 36 pounds lost 9 months later, and my A1C is 5.4, my doctor has taken me off of more than half of my diabetes meds.

Today I am healthier, thinner and keeping my weight off. I don’ feel like I’m 62 years old. The “Warden” (wife) makes me walk every day and today, I thank her again. I know in my heart, joining TOPS saved my life. I thank all of my TOPS friends in my chapter for supporting me. Thank you all and God bless.
