TOPS: Ideas on how to keep safe in our own home

TOPS Chapter 9319 El Dorado Springs, met in The Firefly Services building, 700 E. Hospital Rd, Thursday, April 23, for their regular weigh-in and meeting.

Our Leader, Warren called the meeting to order.

Carol led us in singing “Take My Out”.

Warren led us in roll call, 17 members weighed in today, we had a gain of 9.4 pounds and a loss of 2.4 pounds, giving us a net gain of 7 pounds.  Jan was the best loser of the week with a 1.4 loss, congratulations Jan!

Margie and Jean had the program today.  Margie has had several falls this past year and a year ago January Jean had a fall down a flight of stairs. Linda C made the remark to Margie that we needed to be wrapped in bubble wrap, so today Linda C wrapped us in bubble wrap. Margie then went on to talk about how to help prevent falls as we age. Using “Vanna” AKA Linda C she showed us posters she made with various tips.  Some are: regular exercise to maintain balance, going through your home and adding safety features such as grab bars in the shower, good lighting, no throw rugs, and a shower chair if possible.

Many members shared ideas and experiences on how to keep safe in our own homes.

Contest: Pat suggested we use the TOPS Summer contest, but she suggested we charge a small fee just to help the chapter.  The contest would start with next week’s weigh in and end with the last weigh-in of July. Linda H made a motion to do this contest and charge $2 per member entry fee. Jan 2 this motion, vote taken and passed. Pat will have forms for those wanting to join this contest next week.

Marble game: Since Linda C won last week there was only $5 in the pot. Margie won the right to draw but did not get the winning one.
