TOPS Chapter 9319 El Dorado Springs met in the Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, 1300 S Summer St, El Dorado Springs on Thursday, April 22, for their weekly weigh-in and meeting.

Linda Hall, Leader called the meeting to order.

Carol led us in singing “It’s Not Too Late and My Body”

We said our TOPS and KOPS pledges.

Linda H led us in roll call and walking report. Twenty members weighed in. We had an 18.6 gain and a 21.9 loss resulting in a 3.3 Net Loss. Some great losses were, Warren 1.4, Pam 3.4, Mary 5.2, Ray 6.3 and already reached his KOPS status, Weeks best loser was Pat with a loss of 6.4 lbs. Congratulations Pat.

Linda C had the program today. She took her information from the TOPS Magazine and talked to us about “Stuck at the Scale?” The set point theory could be one explanation. Some say when we start weight loss activities such as dieting, our bodies will fight to maintain weight through an internal control mechanism located in a part of the brain. The brain responds by trying to keep the status quo and slows metabolism. However, the set point theory has not been able to explain the environment’s role in our food intake and weight gain. Bottom line a number of factors result in regaining weight after weight loss. Much more research needs to be done. In the meantime, keep doing what works for each person, cutting calories, exercising, focus on healthy foods and seek out a support group.

Thank you, Linda, for a thought-provoking program.

Laura reported on the contest and told us to be sure and note at the bottom of the page of rules. Earn 20 bonus points for each full day you track your fruit exchange and vegetable exchanges. Both must be tracked to receive the full 20 points.

Linda read a thank you card from Sheryl W.

Twelve members will be going to Independence to attend TOPS State Recognition Days on Friday and Saturday. We are all very excited to honor our members for their weight loss.

Linda closed with her quote of the week “You Don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great” Zig Ziglar

And Our Motto “IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME”
