TOPS Chapter 9319 El Dorado Springs met in The Firefly Services building, on Thursday, Oct. 30, for their regular weigh-in and meeting.

Our Leader, Warren called the meeting to order.

Carol led us in singing “Trick or Treating.”

We said our TOPS & KOPS pledges.

Warren led us in roll call, 15 members weighed in. We had a 4.0-pound gain and an 8.2 loss. Giving us a net loss of 4.2 pounds.

The best loser for the week was Pat with a 3.0-pound loss. Congratulations Pat!

Linda C had the program today. She spoke on “Sweet Stuff.” She asked, is sugar really bad for us? We must have glucose to survive; however, we need the glucose that is found naturally in fruits, berries and milk. Sugar is not bad for us, but we consume way too much of it. Added sugar is now found in soda, energy drinks, sports drinks even fruit juice has sugar added to it. We should try to limit added sugar to no more than 10% of our total intake. Read your labels, there are many names for added sugar, words ending in “OSE” is sugar.

Artificial sweetener is widely used. Many studies have been done on the effects of artificial sweeteners but few done on humans. Most tests involve using rats and showing the health of the rats were compromised with the use of artificial sugars.

Thank you, Linda C, for a great program and we will be reading our labels looking for added sugar.

Linda H will have the program next week.

Margie received an award for KOPS in Black with Perfect Attendance.

Marble Game: There is $14 in the pot. Carol won the right to draw but did not get the winning one.

Contest: Pat drew the two words for the ongoing BINGO the two words for this week are: Goals and Tracking.

Mark your calendars, our Christmas Party will be Dec. 11.

With no other business we closed with our motto “IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME”
