The Twentieth Century Club met on Monday April 11th in the home of our hostess, Evelyn Boyle, withy Glenda Baker serving as co-hostess. Georgia Detwiler, president, called the meeting to order. The minutes were read and approved. There was no treasurer report due to the treasurer being absent. Committee report was that the yearbook schedule is completed and the program will be on biographies. The courtesy committee did not have anything to report. Membership is still considering new members. Unfinished business was a report from the library that they would appreciate our help that we had previously offered. Also, our May meeting was decided upon to be held at the Wayside Museum on Monday the 9th at 2:00 and we would have food and entertainment. There was no new business. Glenda Baker was congratulated on being elected to the city council. The opinion was given by Sue Jones. The topic was the slap at the Academy Awards by Will Smith and if the punishment was fair or unfair for his action. Jean Wernel presented the program on New Age Music. It is abstract, soothing and there is a greater use of electronics and non-western instruments. It is often used in Yoga, with massages and stress management. The ancient Greeks used this music with mental disorders and it is still used today for the same purpose. This music began in the 1960’s and 70’s and Tony Scott released the first album in 1965. The “Father” of New Age Music was Paul Winter. He developed world and earth music by using humpback whale song, wolves howling, and other sounds of nature. Some artists of the 2000”s is Enigma, Enya, Yanni, and Celtic woman. The meeting was adjourned to enjoy delicious refreshments.
The club met on May 9th at the museum for a social gathering, Instead of our regular meeting, the members enjoyed a high tea in the afternoon. Glenda Baker, Georgia Detwiler, and Glenda Ware provided our refreshments of muffins, scones, finger sandwiches, and cupcakes with hot tea of various flavors. Our program was provided by Davis Worthington who played several selections on the piano which was very enjoyable. The remaining time was spent visiting. Our next meeting will be in August.
