Blunt Statement on Selection of General James Mattis to Serve as Defense Secretary

Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement applauding President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of General James Mattis to serve as Secretary of Defense:

“General Mattis is a proven leader with the knowledge and experience to turn the page on eight years of the Obama administration’s misguided defense and foreign policy decisions. Missouri is home to more than 17,000 active-duty military personnel and several major defense installations, including Whiteman, Rosecrans, Fort Leonard Wood, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and Missouri National Guard installations across the state. I look forward to supporting General Mattis’ confirmation, and working with him to address the challenges facing our military men and women and their families.”
