What’s going on in Washington— With Halloween just around the corner, Democrats have chosen a fitting theme for October: horror.
Instead of working with Republicans to keep the government open, they are haunting our nation, dragging us into a shutdown of their own making, going against their very own words and warnings.
Here’s the truth. House Republicans put forward a clean, responsible Continuing Resolution—one that simply keeps government open while we finish the long-term funding process. It protects our troops’ paychecks. It secures our border. It gives seniors peace of mind. It supports public safety.
Democrats voted NO on all of it, turning into ghouls of government gridlock. This is nothing new. Since President Trump took office, Democrats have made obstruction their only governing strategy.
They fought Republicans on restoring law and order. They fought us on securing the border. They fought us on keeping men out of women’s sports. They fought us on delivering the largest tax cut in history, doubling the Child Tax Credit, and investing in rural healthcare. And now, they’re fighting us on one of the most basic functions of government: keeping the lights on.
Why?
Because the Left is saying “no” for no’s sake. They would rather fight to fund NPR than fight to fund our troops. And let’s not forget, the same Democrats who once called shutdowns “dangerous,” “disastrous,” and “self-inflicted harm” are now eagerly embracing one!
They voted for multiple short-term funding resolutions under previous administrations. So why oppose one now? Because political theater and grandstanding seem to be more important to them than the American people.
Their so-called “alternative plan”, a ‘web of woke’ is nightmare legislation and carries a $1.5 trillion price tag. This is a shutdown scripted by Democrats. Republicans acted in good faith. We passed a clean resolution to keep the government open. But the Democrat leadership’s graveyard of ideas creates chaos rather than work toward real solutions.
As your representative, I will keep fighting for Missouri families, farmers, small businesses, veterans, and seniors, even as Democrats double down on horror this Halloween season.
