Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.) issued the following statement in response to President Trump ordering the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Army Corps of Engineers to begin dismantling their controversial Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule.

“This is the first step toward eliminating a rule that amounts to nothing more than a massive federal power grab that threatened 99% of Missouri land. I applaud the President’s efforts to return control of local lands and waters to the farmers, ranchers and authorities who know and care for them best.”

The President’s Executive Order “Restoring the Rule of Law, Federalism, and Economic Growth by reviewing the ‘Waters of the United States’ Rule” requires the EPA and other applicable departments to review the Obama-era “Waters of the United States” regulation and ensure it promotes economic growth and minimizes regularity uncertainty.  The EO then requires agencies to rescind or revise aspects of WOTUS that are incompatible with this new policy guidance.

Hartzler serves on the House Agriculture and Armed Services Committees. She represents Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District.
