Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04) sent a letter to Missouri Senators Roy Blunt and Josh Hawley commending their commitment to ensuring a qualified Supreme Court Justice nominee is moved forward in the United States Senate through the constitutional process.

In the letter, Hartzler explained the Constitution provides the President the power to nominate and the Senate the power to exercise its role of advice and consent, saying “[The] Founding Fathers were clear and deliberate in insulating the judicial branch from the tumult of political pressures and national discourse.” She further underscored the importance of judicial independence as a core tenet of the Supreme Court’s constitutional role.

Hartzler applauded both Blunt and Hawley for standing “firm in [their] duty to ensure the vacancy on the court is filled judiciously and expeditiously within the process laid out by the Constitution.”

“On behalf of Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District, I thank both of you for standing on the side of the Constitution. I look forward to having a Supreme Court nominee confirmed without delay so that the institution can continue to function in its full capacity,” Hartzler concluded.
