Greetings, My Fellow Missourians

The 100 Mile Yard Sale on Labor Day Weekend was a huge success! “My “Hat’s Off” to El Dorado Chamber Director Jackson Tough and his Assistant, Peggy Snodgrass, for helping organize and promote this annual event. Also a Big Thank You to all the Host Sites and Sellers along the 54 Highway Corridor. In summary it was the best year yet.

From El Dorado Springs Chamber Director Jackson Tough: “Last Friday and Saturday, Sept. 4 and 5, saw a ton of traffic along the US Highway 54 corridor at many points along the Labor Day Weekend 100 Mile Sale route between Nevada and Linn Creek. The annual event is a draw for thousands of visitors to come to the area. We believe that tens of thousands of dollars are infused into our communities, from the sales themselves to our restaurants, fuel stations, retail stores and others. As an example, one of our local restaurants said it is their single largest sales weekend of the year. That’s saying something! Some of the food vendors even ran out of many of their primary items much earlier than expected!

Thank You Sellers! Thanks to all the sellers that took the time to organize their merchandise, to put it in a vehicle or trailer, bring it to Hwy. 54 and set up each of the two days. Without sellers there are no buyers. We trust you had a lucrative weekend and appreciate the effort you put into the event!

Thank You Buyers! Thanks to all those that came to look and buy. We had local inquiries of course. Plus many others from all over the state. We met many folks and had sellers tell us of people they met; from Springfield, Joplin, Columbia, Kansas City, St. Joseph, Hannibal, St. Louis, and others in-state. We also spoke to folks from out-of-the-state including Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky and even New York. We appreciate you traveling and hope you had a wonderful weekend full of treasure collecting!”

Missourians Urged to Register to Vote during National Voter Registration Month

September is National Voter Registration Month and state officials are encouraging Missourians to take action to register to vote or verify their registration. Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft said, “With a November presidential election just around the corner, we’re encouraging all Missourians who are eligible to make sure they are registered. If you’re already registered, it’s important to verify your voting information. It’s crucial that all Missourians have the opportunity to cast a ballot and make their voices heard on Election Day.”

Missourians can visit www.GoVoteMissouri.com to register, check their registration status or get more information about registering to vote. In order to register, you must be a U.S. citizen, a Missouri resident and 18 years old by the day of the election. The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 7.
