The Program: Instituted as a media campaign in 2000, the program is aimed at calling attention to endangered statewide historic resources threatened by deterioration, lack of maintenance, insufficient funds, imminent demolition and/or inappropriate development. Formerly known as Most Endangered, the program was renamed in 2015 as ‘Places in Peril.’ The re-branding came as a means of highlighting the selected public nominated places because becoming the ‘most endangered’ was not a contest. Once the historic resource is gone, it’s gone forever. By publicizing these places, we hope to build support towards each property’s eventual preservation.
All properties considered for the list, which is decided upon by a volunteer group of preservation professionals and enthusiasts, are nominated by concerned individuals. The Places in Peril program is not a grant program; Places in Peril is meant to bring awareness to endangered properties and the groups that support them.
– Form. Completed nomination form. Please type or print clearly in pen. Emailed nominations are encouraged.
– Photographs. Please supply a minimum of 8 photographs. These images need to give the Places in Peril committee an accurate impression of the property, show a range of views that clearly depict the condition or reasons why the site is in peril. Historic images are encouraged if available.
The more content provided by the nominators; the better Missouri Preservation can advocate for the endangered place. The 2021 Announcement will be made virtually; any materials provided will be useful in creating video.
