This week was very busy, but productive.  The Senate passed our version of the state’s budget.  The House and Senate will now meet to discuss their differences.  After those are agreed to, both bodies will have to pass the final versions of the bills.

I was able to get several more of my bills passed this week.  HB 974, sponsored by Rep. Jim Murphy and handled by me in the Senate, established the Peer to Peer Car Sharing Program Act. This bill will protect consumers by ensuring that all parties have adequate insurance coverage when leasing their vehicles to others. SB 98 and HB 754 (sponsored by Rep. Phil Oehlerking, and handled by me in the Senate) both contain multiple banking issues, including language that helps protect consumers from financial fraud. SB 98 is headed to the Governor for his signature, and HB 754 needs one final vote in the House.

I was also the Senate handler of HB 419 (sponsored by Rep. Don Mayhew).  The final version of this bill contained language to allow Missouri State University to offer some Doctor of Philosophy degrees and Bachelor of Science degrees  in Veterinary Technology.  The bill also contains another bill I filed that would make it optional, not mandatory, for veterans to complete a Boots to Business course before they are eligible for a MO Bucks loan.  This bill heads back to House for one more vote as well.

I look forward to a productive final two weeks of session.
