State Senator Mike Parson, R-Bolivar, today applauded the governor’s signing of Senate Bill 947, which pertains to insurance requirements for transportation network companies and drivers. Senator Parson, the bill’s sponsor, said the bill will be a big advancement in protection for riders, drivers and transportation companies.

“Senate Bill 947 will ensure that rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft, as well as the drivers of those companies are adequately and appropriately covered by automobile insurance,” Sen. Parson said. “This is common-sense, protective legislation that works in favor of the companyies, the employees and the consumer’s safety.”

Under the bill, all transportation network companies (TNC) and TNC drivers who use personal vehicles to transport passengers will be required to maintain primary automobile liability insurance coverage. The coverage shall meet a minimum requirement of at least $1 million for death, bodily injury and property damage for when the driver is on duty and engaging in passenger transportation. The bill was signed into law on Thursday, June 23, 2016, and will go into effect on April 1, 2017.
