It’s been an extremely busy week in Jefferson City, with only one week left in this year’s Session, lots of bills are looking for final approval. Budget bills were a priority this week and we finalized all of them today. This year’s state budget was around 46 BILLION dollars! The largest in states history, with quite a bit of that being federal dollars, passed down from Washington for Covid pandemic relief. As a common sense republican and being as conservative as possible, I feel we are doing a lot of great things for the state of Missouri. Education was a big winner, with us adding back in Career Ladder, fully funding transportation for schools and adding in money for teachers pay! Medicaid expansion was added in and social service programs for mental health, children’s services and elderly services were all funded at record levels.
It was also an exciting week for me as I have gotten to the Governor’s desk my first piece of legislation. It deals with cemetery trust funds and will be a big benefit to Hickory county residents and their cemeteries! Now all that is needed is for the Governor to sign it in June!
As always, it is great to have constituents from the district visit us at the capitol. This week, Gregg Smith who is on the Missouri Highway Commission, stopped by my office with Patrick McKenna, Director of the Missouri Department of Transportation, and we had a great visit about MoDOTs plans and goals.
Also, was great to have two local school groups come to the Capitol and learn about their state government! The 8th grade class from Weaubleau along with several parents and the 4th grade class from Appleton City, who also got to ride the Amtrak train here from Warrensburg!
One more week remaining, and as this week, it will be a busy one as everyone is trying to get their legislation across the finish line. And then it will be over, and 2 years has flown by! Will look forward to being back in the district full time and visiting with all of you more often.
