A class on infant massage specifically for children ages birth to two years will be offered at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, in the El Dorado Springs R-2 Elementary Library. Expectant parents are also encouraged to attend.

Sheryl Swopes, massage therapist from Oasis Day Spa, will conduct the class, which is being sponsored by the El Dorado Springs Parents as Teachers and the Children’s Trust Fund. The class will be “hands on”; parents should bring their baby, a blanket and change of clothes.

Childcare is offered for older children, but parents are asked to register for this service so adequate staff will be available.

Infant massage is an age-old tradition that has been practiced by parents since the beginning of time. It offers many benefits to both the baby and the parent, including relaxation, parent-child bonding, better sleep and increased ability to soothe the child when they are upset or in pain. It tones the digestive system, helps children relieve tension built by over-stimulation and can even provide relief from teething pain.

For more information, or to register for the class and/or childcare, please call the Parents As Teachers office at 417/876-4177 or 876-8978.
