Drivers can expect  one-lane traffic on Hwy. 54 between Weaubleau and Preston when a resurfacing project begins the week of Aug. 8, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will grind off the top layer of asphalt and replace it with new a new asphalt driving surface on a 23-mile section of Hwy. 54.  The work will take place between St. Clair County Hwy. MM west of Weaubleau and Hickory County Hwy. D in Preston. Crews also will resurface the shoulders.

During the work, drivers can expect short-term delays and traffic stops on Hwy. 54 where crews are working.  There will be one-lane traffic where crews are working with flaggers directing drivers through the work zone.

Crews also will use a pilot car to lead drivers through the work zone.  Drivers are urged to wait for the pilot car before entering the work zone from side roads.

APAC-Central of Springfield will do the work for a low bid amount of $2.3 million.

The work is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 1.  However, contractor crews expect to be completed by mid-September.

Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.
