Apple grafting will be the topic of a special hands-on workshop taught by University of Missouri Extension Horticulture Specialist Patrick Byers from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, March 3, at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave. Springfield.
Participants will learn the techniques of the whip/tongue graft, try their hand at chip budding and take home two budded apple trees.
Workshop attendees should bring a sharp pocket knife or boxknife with a fresh blade, and branches from a favorite apple tree if desired.
Attendees will receive two apple rootstocks, scionwood if desired, and supplies to make two chip budded apple trees.
There is a fee of $15 per person to cover the cost of materials.
