The members of the Cedar County MU Extension Council met on the evening of Jan. 9 in the Cedar County Memorial Hospital Health Complex in Stockton.. This report is adapted from the minutes provided by council member Rachel Stauffer. Members present were Nedra Fox, Jim Phillips, Cory Dawes and Rachel Stauffer.

After minutes and treasurer’s reports were approved unanimously committee reports were given. Budget, finance and audit committee reported that the budget has been presented to the Commissioners and that we were waiting to hear back from them on approval or changes needed.

The election committee discussed the election process and determined date to count the ballots for the election. The election will take place on Jan. 15 to Jan. 21 and the voting places will be located at the Cedar County Farm Bureau Insurance office in El Dorado Springs, City Hall in Stockton and the Cedar County MU Extension Center in Stockton. Cedar County residents can also vote online and ballots will be mailed out with newsletters. The ballots will be counted on the selected date by election committee of Rachel Stauffer, Jim Phillips and Kelly Hendricks. Once the ballots are counted, the Cedar County MU Extension Center will make the results public and the new members will be sworn in at the annual meeting in February. The City of El Dorado Springs and Stockton have been contacted related to their appointed representation.

The equipment committee reported the purchase of a new easel for programming.

The programs committee educated the group on the upcoming programs. There was discussion on the Annual Meeting that will begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in the Stockton Christian Church Activity Center in Stockton. The meat entrée will be ordered by the Cedar County MU Extension Center and members attending should bring a side dish, dessert or salad. The people being honored at the meeting are the 2016 Cedar County Century Farms, 2016 Cedar County Missouri State Fair Farm Family, the Leaders Honor Roll Recipient as well as incoming and outgoing extension council members. There will be a 4 – H presentation at the meeting.

Other business discussed at the meeting was the SWOT analysis that the council was asked to complete by March 10. This is part of a statewide needs assessment and review for University of Missouri Extension and the council is asked to provide input in the form of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats related to University of Missouri Extension.

The final business for the meeting was the presentation by Patrick Davis Cedar County MU Extension Regional Livestock specialist and County Program director of the Reaching Out Report which outlines MU Extension activities going on in the county, local, regional and state level.

The next extension council meeting will be held on Feb. 6 in the Stockton Christian Church Activity Center in Stockton following the annual meeting.
