Learn about turkey hunting April 5 at free MDC program

Springfield Conservation Nature Center clinic has tips for youths and adults.

Missouri’s spring turkey season offers great opportunities to get outside, but the pastime presents challenges, too. Knowing how to locate a gobbler, calling him into shotgun range, and handling firearms in a safe fashion are all parts of a successful and safe hunt.

Hunters can learn more about the fundamentals of this popular spring pastime at the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) clinic “Turkey Hunting” on April 5 at MDC’s Springfield Conservation Nature Center at 4601 South Nature Center Way. This free program will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. People can register online at mdc.mo.gov/SouthwestEvents

Topics covered at this seminar include calling, locating, firearms safety, hunt preparation, how to call a turkey, identifying legal birds and information on shooting ballistics. This clinic will be preparation for those wishing to participate in either Missouri’s youth-only turkey season, April 7-8, or the state’s regular spring turkey season, April 16-May 6.
