MDC offers free Native Landscape Chat April 1 in Kansas City

Plants are beginning their spring emergence. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free Native Landscape Chat about common backyard plants that can be foraged for table fare or other uses from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 1, at the Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center in Kansas City.
Plants that may seem like nuisance weeds may be nutritional greens. Alix Daniel, MDC native landscape specialist, will discuss what plants are edible and how they can be used. Examples will be displayed. Participants can also visit the Discovery Center native plant garden and education lawn to look for examples.
This spring greens class is for participants ages 14 and older. COVID-19 safety precautions will be followed. Registration is required. To register, visit https://short.mdc.mo.gov/4JM.
MDC’s Discovery Center and the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center in Blue Springs have a variety of classes or events upcoming that are devoted to native woodland, forest, and prairie plants.
