Everyone can improve their property with a little planning and forethought.  Community Forester Jon Skinner is holding a series of Tree Selection and Planting workshops to help you make better decisions and establish your new tree to optimize its’ benefits to you and your neighborhood.  Everyone is welcome to attend one of these free workshops near you.  Registration is requested.  For more information or to register, please call 417-629-3423.

Trees are planted for many reasons including wildlife habitat, energy conservation, in remembrance of an event or person, shade a yard, aesthetics, reduce stormwater runoff, and more.  The free to use i-Tree Design web software (http://design.itreetools.org) allows you to plot and grow a tree to see the benefits you can receive.

Before you select and plant a tree, you need to ask several questions to evaluate your planting site.  This is a decision that lasts a lifetime or longer.  There are places some trees and others that no trees should be planted.  Without careful analysis, a tree that should not be in a location is planted.  Problems start developing years later because of the decision made earlier.  Now the tree planted with purpose and anticipation of great benefits is a liability to the landscape.
