There is only one organization that supplies blood to all hospitals in southwest Missouri, northwest Arkansas, and southeast Kansas, including all children’s and veterans’ hospitals. That is Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO).
When it comes to blood donation, the truth of the matter is, every donation is needed to help local patients. An available blood supply is critical for them as they undergo cancer treatment, surgeries, give birth, or fight traumatic injuries.
If there is one essential component to keeping the blood supply at a level capable of meeting the demand, it is regular blood donation by many donors. CBCO depends upon an average of 200 blood donations each day to meet the needs of the area it serves, which includes Nevada and Joplin.
That is why Nevada Regional Medical Center partners with CBCO to host several blood drives throughout the year. The next Community Blood Drive will be Monday, March 15 at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall at 204 S. Cedar Street in Nevada from 1 to 6 P.M.
Appointments are strongly encouraged to manage donor flow. To schedule, call (417) 448-2101 or visit www.cbco.org/donate-blood. Masks are required for donors and staff. If you don’t have a mask, one will be provided. CBCO will give a free t-shirt to all donors while supplies last.
Anyone who is at least 16 years old (with parental consent), weighs at least 110 pounds and who is in good health may give blood every 56 days. Certain medications and/or medical conditions may prevent someone from donating blood temporarily or in some cases, permanently.
