Betty Jean Horning, 80, El Dorado Springs, passed away June 9, 2016, in Nevada Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Stockton on July 27, 1935, the daughter of David and Clara (Mizner) Stroer.

Betty graduated from Stockton High School. She married Gene Horning on July 3, 1958, in Stockton. To this union, five children were born – Gary, Charles, Sarah, Glenda and Sue.

Most of her married life was spent as a homemaker. She liked to read and enjoyed word searches, embroidery and crocheting.

Preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband, Gene; a daughter, Sarah Jean O’Neal; a son, Charles Horning; and a grandson, Robert Seely.

Survivors include: one son, Gary Horning, and wife, Jana – Ohio; two daughters, Glenda Seely and husband, Robert – California and Sue Adams and husband, Ken – Florida; three brothers – David Stroer and wife, Alma – Nevada, Dean Stroer and wife, Lee – Nevada and Marion Stroer and wife, Jill – Georgia; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one aunt, May Bales – Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held on Monday, June 13, in Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Rev. Brent Bland officiated. Burial followed in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to the El Dorado Springs Senior Center and left at the funeral home.
