On Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019, Candy Kay Woody, 63, loving wife. mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away. 

Candy was born on Aug. 1, 1956, in Independence to biological father, Edgar Ray Carriker and mother, Patricia Louise Richey. Edgar passed away in an automobile accident in June of 1975. Patricia later married John Martin Richey who became Candy’s father. Candy married Steve Martin Woody on July 19, 1975. 

Candy Woody gave birth to two amazing boys, Steven M. Woody and Danny A. (Laura) Woody. From her sons, she became a grandmother to Jarren Taylor, Courtny Woody, Grace Woody, Chris Woody, Darla Woody and Jimmy Woody. In the past two years, she became a loving great- grandmother to Lucas and Heavenly Harder. 

Along with her husband, sons, grandchildren and great- grandchildren, she survived by her brother, Bud (Nancy) Carriker, and father, John Martin Richey. 

Candy had a passion for taking care of others. She always had a smile on her face when she was surrounded by kids. She touched many people’s lives through taking care of children at the school and daycare. 

She enjoyed embroidering on patches to make blankets for her grandchildren during her free time, as well as cooking meals for her family and friends. She was known for her infectious smile and her kind and compassionate spirit. 

Candy fought a long, hard battle with cancer for five years. On Dec. 8, 2019, she was placed in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis due to some cancer complications. On Friday, Dec. 13, Candy made a four-hour trip by ambulance with her husband, Steve M. Woody, back home. There, she was surrounded by many loving and caring family members. On Dec. 15, 2019, Candy Woody passed away at 7:47 a.m. in her home, beside her best friend and husband, Steve M. Woody.

Services were held Saturday, Dec. 21, in Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, with Minister Roger Beach officiating. Music was “Tough” by Craig Morgan and “I’ll Fly Away” by Randy Travis. Final disposition was cremation. Arrangements were under the direction of Sheldon Funeral Home. www.sheldongoodrich.com.
