Carol Juanita (Shellhorn) Robison

Carol Juanita Shellhorn Robison, 78, of El Dorado Springs, passed away Aug. 6, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, surrounded by her children.

Carol was born on March 23, 1943, to Preston and Ruby Shellhorn at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

She spent most of her childhood growing up on the family farm near Olympia until she graduated High School in El Dorado Springs in 1961. Carol married Jim Robison Aug. 13, 1961. She and Jim were able to travel all across the country while Jim was in the military, and were fortunate enough to spend some time living in Germany. During their time of travels, Carol enjoyed working in management for Howard Johnson and Seven-Eleven franchises. Through their many adventures, four children were born before they decided to move back to El Dorado Springs, so that Carol could take care of her parents.

After coming back home, Carol enjoyed working in Healthcare related positions. She worked on the ambulance crew for El Dorado Springs, as a CMT at Cedar County Memorial Hospital, and then worked at the Nursing Home, until she was unable to work. Carol was very proud of her medical-related positions and loved learning new things.

Those who knew and loved Carol would tell you she was one of the strongest people you will ever meet. She lived a simplistic life and took pride in her independence. She was fiercely determined to be independent and take care of things herself. If something broke, she usually fixed it herself. Even at 70+ years of age, and many heart procedures, Carol could be seen climbing ladders and climbing on roof tops to put down shingles or do some painting.

She enjoyed going to yard sales, flea markets and auctions as she enjoyed collecting glassware and antiques and other useful items—and sometimes even items that she deemed might be useful in the future if they were a good bargain. She loved being able to provide or find something for a family member and friends and loved helping them when she could.

The one thing Carol was most proud of in her life were her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She had four children, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and there was always a present for each of them under the Christmas tree each year. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She would especially get tickled when the older grandkids would try to “harass” her and get her going, but she would go toe to toe with them matching their wit.

Carol is survived by her brother, Albert (Carolyn) Shellhorn – Independence; brother-in-law, Wally Chesbro – Laramie, WY; daughters, Shelly Scheiffer (Dwain Marshall) – El Dorado Springs and Kay (Terry) Simon of Joplin; son, Scott (Michelle) Robison – El Dorado Springs; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Carol is preceded in death by her son, Michael Robison; parents, Preston and Ruby Shellhorn; sister, Bonnie Chesbro; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marjorie and Glen Mogan.

Services for Carol Robison will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with burial to follow at the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11,  at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
