Charles Clyde Silvers Jr.

Charles Clyde Silvers Jr., 87, El Dorado Springs, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021, at home.

Charles grew up in Asheville, N C, and at an early age showed his determination to achieve.  He had three jobs while in high school, delivery of newspapers in the morning and after school found himself delivering groceries to homes along with working in the market, and at night a soda jerk at the local pharmacy. At 17, he enlisted in the Navy.  After training as a machinist mate he was assigned to the USS Manatee during the Korean War.  While off shore he viewed, on the early morning of March 1, 1954 the “Bravo Hydrogen Bomb” that was detonated at the Bikini Atoll test site.

After leaving the Navy, and the arrival of his first child, he decided to build himself, a home in Southern California.  The garage was built first; he then started designing his machines to make what they called “tackless strip”.  He did this over the next 30 years, each machine bigger and better. After selling his business in 1987 and moving to Missouri, he started cattle ranching full time as a cow-calf operation.  This too, started small, now growing to over 500 head of cows.

Charles was a workaholic; always something going on, he never sat still.  He could build or fix anything. “As a machinist if he couldn’t buy the part he needed, he’d make it”. Several friends and their families followed him and his family to make their homes in Missouri.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles Clyde Silvers Sr. and Ruby Presnell – Asheville, NC; sister, Mary Walker; brother-in-law, Cecil Davis, and son, Christopher Silvers.

He is survived by his wife of 67 1⁄2 years, Dorothy Joan (Krause), whom he met in California while serving in the Navy; his sisters, Ann Davis – Chapel Hill, NC, and Frances Gore (Ed) – Asheville, NC; daughter, Beverly Jean Duff; granddaughters, Christina Silvers and Katherine Hunter (Michael); son, Craig Scott Silvers (Arlene); grandchildren, Cristen Sardo (Nico), Chelsea Wherry (Zack), Scott, Andrew and Nicholas Silvers; granddaughter, Claire Silvers; great-grandchildren: Emma, Makeala, Zoey, Madison, Nick, Clancy and Collin. He will be missed by many friends and all of his family so much.

Services were held on Friday, June 25, in the El Dorado Springs Church of God (Holiness) with burial to follow at Silverline Ranch under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
