Charles Everett Worthington, age 88, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, finishing the race of life and moving on to his heavenly home. Charles was born Oct. 18, 1935, in Cedar Springs, MO. When he was about five years old, he and his family moved to Lindsay, CA. Charles and his family attended the Lindsay Church of God (Holiness). He graduated from Lindsay High School.
On August 3, 1956, Charles married Betty Jean Wilson. They had three children while living in California: Debra, Curtis, and Brian. In 1964, Charles and his family moved to El Dorado Springs. Their last child, Joe, was born in El Dorado Springs. They spent the remainder of their married life on a farm west of town and faithfully attended the El Dorado Springs Church of God (Holiness). Charles was a Sunday School teacher and served as a board member for several years. He was always willing to help whenever needed at the church. Charles committed his life to Christ as a young adult, and he was a devout Christian his entire life.
Charles started working for the Postal Service while living in California, and then continued that career after moving to Missouri until his retirement. After retirement, he and Betty spent several years operating a dog kennel. In more recent years, he has spent much of his time visiting elderly people, shut-ins and the nursing homes. Because of his mail route, his devotion to the church and his visitation of many people in the area, everyone seemed to know Charles. Charles loved the Lord, and he loved people. He never knew a stranger.
Charles loved putting together jigsaw puzzles, going camping and fishing, visiting people and spending time with his family. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. He would frequently say to different family members, “I love you, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t.” He made everyone smile with his many quips and anecdotes. Charles always finished his prayers with his family saying, “May we be an unbroken family around God’s throne in Glory.”
Charles is survived by his wife, Betty Worthington; four children: Debra Menefee, Curtis Worthington, Brian Worthington and Joe Worthington; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two siblings: Larry Worthington and Wayne Worthington.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Rose Worthington, and five siblings: Audrey, Lee (died at age 13), Harold James (died in infancy), Lucy, and Nettie.
The family of Charles Worthington will receive friends for visitation from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, May 24, at the El Dorado Springs Church of God (Holiness) with Rev. Joe Trussell officiating. Interment will follow in El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the El Dorado Springs Church of God (Holiness).
