Commander Gary Wayne Henry, USN (Ret.), of Louisburg, KS, left the bounds of earth for his heavenly home on Monday, June 15, 2026. He was born in El Dorado Springs, Sept. 19, 1946, to Earnest Clarence Henry and Mabel Cleo (Conyers) Henry.
His family attended the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where in 1960, Gary accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and was saved by the Grace of God. He later was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raymore, MO.
Gary continued his education and was a graduate of Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. He joined the US Navy and entered Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, Following graduation, he served in the Vietnam War for several tours of duty, aboard the USS McKean (DD784), USS Sanctuary (AH17), and Danang, RVN. Commander Henry is a retired member of the United States Naval Reserve.
After the war, he attended the University of Missouri School of Law in Kansas City, Missouri, and completed the course of study required for the degree of Juris Doctor in 1974. He was later elected to the office of Associate Judge of the Circuit Court for the 17th Judicial Circuit, Cass County, Missouri, serving from 1982-1994. He was also a member of the Missouri State Bar Association.
In his later years, Gary settled in Louisburg, KS, with his fiancé. There they enjoyed his final years together laughing and enjoying one another’s company, walking around the lake, enjoying nature, and photographing the beauty around them.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind his beloved family – two sons, James Henry (Sarah Laws) of Kansas City, MO; Brian (Jennifer) Henry of Greenwood, MO; his fiancé, June Pisciotta of Louisburg, KS; and five grandchildren – Emma, Hugh, Madison, Braelyn, and Chase Henry.
Visitation was held Saturday, June 20, at Dengel & Son Mortuary – Louisburg Chapel, 1 Aquatic Drive, Louisburg, KS 66053. A Celebration of life followed with Pastor Cooper Moore officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date, at the Virgil City Cemetery, 29905 E Stone Rd, El Dorado Springs, MO 64744, where military honors will be provided by The United States Navy.
